Isle of Wight
This island is in the county of Hampshire. It will always be linked to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert for it was here, on this diamond-shaped 22.5 miles by 13.5 miles island, that they set up their perfect house. Osborne House is like no other Victorian royal house. It is not a palace, but sits like a classical Italianate styled building looking over the Solent to the mainland. But this little island has so much more to offer. There is a royal Castle, a lighthouse, a windmill, magnificent beaches, a botanical garden, Roman mosaics in a Roman Villa and fossils. This island is not called “Dinosaur Island” for nothing and many fossils are discovered on this historic isle.
