Stourhead and Gardens

This garden is, without a doubt, one of the most picturesque gardens in Wiltshire. It was the home of a very wealthy but somewhat unfortunate family, the Hoares. They had their own share of blessings and mishaps, but they have left as scenic a garden as anywhere in Wessex. The garden is situated around an immense lake. Walking boots are needed to fully enjoy what the garden has to offer. With every turn there is a photo opportunity or a watercolour in mind. The walk gradually reveals hidden gems, such as the Boat House, the Grotto and the Pantheon. The house itself is now open to view, plus the gardens around the house. The walk down the hill to the lake is truly spectacular. Most importantly, if you should get tired, the estate has it’s own Inn, the Spread Eagle Inn!
