Cathedral
The Cathedral can be a separate tour or part of an extended City Tour. An original Magna Carta is housed in the Chapter House which is within the grounds of the Cathedral and cloisters. There is also a cafe and a shop, both of which are part of the space of the Cathedral. The City of Salisbury and the Cathedral have just celebrated 800 years of being on this new site, the old site being at Old Sarum, an iron age hill fort two miles away. Old Sarum was built and on a high promontory and the move of people from this original site all happened in 1220. The Cathedral in this second site, is the third Cathedral to have been built, the first two having been built at Old Sarum. There is much to see and wonder at in this “new” Cathedral. To begin with, where did all the stone come from and who designed it? The answers to such questions will be revealed as the tour progresses.’
