Costume

Join either ‘Mayor John Ivie’ or ‘Annie Moberly’ on one of our exciting costume walks.

Mayor John Ivie was Mayor of Salisbury during the plague of 1626. Touched by the devastation brought by the Black Death on the City, Mayor John Ivie, along with Councillor, Matthew Bee, and the Town Clerk, Henry Sherfield, stayed in the city when others had left. A puritan he had radical ideas for helping the poor of the City, including a community brewery and storehouses for food.

Annie Moberley, 1846 – 1937, was the daughter of Bishop Moberly, Bishop of Salisbury. Following an extraordinary occurrence in the gardens of Versailles she wrote, with Elinor F. Jourdain, a best selling ghost story of the time. OR was it really more that just a story? Published in 1911 as ‘The Advernture’, The Ghost of Trianon’ is still in print today.

“We so enjoyed our walking tour with Lorna which was dressed in costume. She was so engaging and full of information and interesting anecdotes. Salisbury came alive with her as our guide. Highly recommended” – Trip Advisor Reviewer.
