Wimborne

What has this small town in Dorset to do with Worsted Stockings, paper money and the New World? Why does Wimborne feature in a tapestry thousands of miles away?

This town has a large number of buildings from the C16 and is largely unscathed by modern developments. It has a vibrant market at the weekends and a hugely successful folk festival established in 1980 which includes traditional dancing and music from around the world. This festival is held annually in June over a weekend and takes over the whole town. The town settles in the river confluence of rivers Allen and Stour. There are many bridges, millstreams and, for a small town, a legendary history for producing saints! Visit the Tivoli theatre, walk on the ancient site, but, whatever you do, don’t loiter on the bridges!
