After hundreds of years this royal castle, established by William the Conqueror in 1066, remains solidly romantic. Yes, it has been developed and we can thank royalty for that, for they have over a 1,000 years developed and extended into what we can see today. There is so much to admire and to imagine. Some of the rooms that are open are sumptuous, some practical, and some quite newly re-done. Windsor town itself is worth a stroll around. A stroll along to Eton is to be recommended.
